“If you don’t drink or smoke, what do you get high on?”
This question is frequently faced by people who do not drink or do drugs. They are considered as an alien species by most of their friends. In most parties or get together, they end up taking care of their friends who are way too high and they’re also blamed for eating up the munchies (aka the chakhna)!
Quite often they’re told, “You don’t know what you are missing out on,” “you don’t know how to relax or take a break,” “once you know how it feels to be high, you will understand why we do it.”
But they stick to their principals and honestly, most people are secretly proud of them for not giving in to the peer pressure. Nevertheless, there are days when they begin to think what the fuss is about. Their strong morals won’t let them do the mainstream things that their friends get high on, and for them and for everyone else who is interested in something really cool, here are some lesser-known ways in which you can experience the high:
1. Binaural beats
You can easily download various sound clips available on the internet of different frequencies that are close to each other (say 400 Hz and 410 Hz) and play two different frequencies after putting on the headphones. Your brain will automatically create a binaural tone of the difference in frequency (10 Hz). This tone will echo in your head for a while and you will experience a drastic change in your mood depending upon the music that you have selected.
This practice has its roots in ancient Hinduism (of course *smirks*). This is like an extremely conscious form of having an intercourse where your energies combine and lead you to a state of trance. It is a combination of brainwave alteration, pure pleasure, meditation and energy combination with another soul. If you have seen the movie ‘Valley of flowers’ featuring Millind Soman and Mylene Jamponoi, you will know what I am talking about.
Remember the sleep thing in the movie Avatar? This is a lot like that. There is a closed tank full of saturated salt mixed with very little water. You lie down naked in the tank and close the tank with some an oxygen outlet. Eventual you will feel like you are falling asleep, but you won’t be able to. And then you will enter a state where your body will remain still and you will be able to move around through your mind. This floating state is extremely calming and the isolation tanks are available in many places in the states.
This famous technique required you to concentrate strongly and be in an environment which is free of disturbance. There are several approach available on the internet for this. You can select a serene setting according to yourself and lie down comfortable, allow your body to relax and make yourself a part of the setting. Slowly and eventually you will experience a state of trance where your body is relaxed and your subconscious is active.
There are several different forms of yoga such as Kundalini yoga and Bikram yoga where you are channelizing your energy to alter your state of consciousness and reach a high. This high is very different from the mainstream high that people get by smoking pot. Instead of tripping on music, you will reach a new level of awareness and let go of your negativity. This form of yoga is commonly taught in hill stations where foreigners often visit.
It is like a hippie aroma bath therapy. After adding the oil to the water in your bathtub, you need to lie in the bath tub for a while and let the oil work its magic on you. Eventually, you feel light headed and relaxed. You will be more conscious about your surrounding and feel happy. The feeling is going to stay for a while even after you are done bathing.
These devices are pretty cheap and have different settings of light to induce you into a hallucinogenic state. This can also be tried at home easily by getting different lights and concentrating on them for a while. The lights activate your pineal glands which in turn develop and project a psychedelic vision in your head. The high on this is a lot like the high that people get on mushrooms.
